UV Tanning

In Illinois, you must be 18 or older to use a UV tanning bed. Sunless tanning, which doesn’t use UV light, has no age restrictions.

You’ll start seeing results after a few sessions, but achieving your desired color may take a few weeks of regular tanning (at least three times a week). Planning for a vacation? Start tanning at least a month in advance for the best base tan.

Absolutely — and you're in great hands. With 6 levels of Ergoline UV beds to choose from, our SmartTan certified consultants will recommend the right bed and session time based on your skin type and tanning goals. Guests with fair or sensitive skin typically start at a lower level to build a gradual, comfortable base tan. We never rush the process — our team is here to make sure your experience is safe, comfortable, and gets you the results you're looking for. Just let us know it's your first time and we'll take it from there!

To build a tan, consistency is key. Illinois law requires a 24-hour gap between tanning sessions. During this base building time, it is recommended to tan every 48-72 hours. Don’t wait too long between sessions, or you will slow down the base building process. Once you’ve built a base tan, maintain it with 1–2 sessions per week.

Each tanning bed performs differently; producing different results based on an individual's tanning potential. Some tanning beds produce different combinations of ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B, producing different tanning results. Executive Tans offers a variety of bed types to ensure that our customers have the best tanning options to reach their highest tanning potential and goals. Our Smart Tan certified tanning consultants will guide you in choosing which bed is right for you.

Eye protection is required by law. The eyelid does not effectively block ultraviolet light while tanning; therefore, the use of approved eye protection is required at Executive Tans.

Yes! The use of indoor tanning lotions will provide hydration, nutrition, and oxygenation, which are essential to reach your tanning potential. Skin must be hydrated to reach and maintain the desired tan. Dry, neglected skin reflects UV light and exfoliates much faster, resulting in the loss of a tan. The vitamin-rich products sold at Executive Tans are vital to the skin's appearance and ability to tan. Our trained personnel will recommend the appropriate product for you.

It is not recommended to tan indoors or outdoors if you are taking photosensitive medications. These medications can greatly increase the risk of overexposure. If you are unsure about your medication, ask your physician or ask a tanning consultant at Executive Tans to see a list of photosensitive medications.

Yes, and it's actually one of the best ways to get the deepest, most natural-looking color possible! When you do a UV session first, it warms your skin and opens your pores — which allows the VersaPro spray tan solution to absorb more deeply and last longer. The result is a richer, more even tan than either service alone. Ask our team when you come in and we'll help you put together the perfect combination based on your skin type and goals. It's one of our favorite ways to help you walk out glowing!
